Louisiana here we come

We headed out of Conroe and off to our next destination in Donaldsonville in Louisiana. Donaldsonville is a small town located in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Our apartment was a restored historical location that was built in the 1920's. We are on the second floor of the building above the wonderful Grapevine Cafe. Here are a few of the pictures of our new apartment.

For our first weekend in Louisiana we decided to go and see a few of the plantations surrounding Donaldsonville. Because of Donaldsonvilles location to the Mississippi, the banks of the Mississippi are surrounded by early plantations. The first plantation we went to go see was the Houmas House. The Houmas house has a long history dating back as early as 1774. It had a beautiful inside and gardens. Many of the plantations today are privately owned and ran. The plantations being ran by private owners was totally different than what I was expecting, I thought that they would be mostly state run to preserve these historical homes. Here are a few of the pictures of our tour through this estate.

The second plantation we saw was the Nottoway plantation. This was the most modern of the plantations we would see and was very large and extravagant. The ceilings were 12 feet high and everything seemed over the top. The inside wasn't what I thought it would be from looking on the outside, it was very simple but still fun to see.
